Originally intended to cover 80 acres of residential land, visionaries Dwight B. Heard and William G. Hartranft purchased the land from an estate in the late 1920s and developed the Palmcroft subdivision, located on the south side of Palm Lane. Two other real estate developers — Lloyd C. Lakin and George T. Peter — developed the Encanto subdivision of the estate to the north of Palm Lane. Following an economic downturn, the West portion of the land was sold to the City of Phoenix to be used for a park with homes in close proximity, leaving the Encanto neighborhood development on the North and south sides of Palm Lane.
Encanto houses are available in a number of vintage styles, including Spanish-style Colonial Revivals, Mediterranean, Tudor, Colonial, Federal, French Cottage, Bungalow, Pueblo, Ranch, and Eclectic. History reveals that residences in this neighborhood were purposefully built to face each other, encouraging neighborly friendship and developing a strong feeling of community.
Encanto homes give an oasis in the heart of Downtown Phoenix while still providing unequaled access to all the city has to offer, including shopping, eating, sports, and antique districts all within a mile.
